Listen up Barcelona insiders, Gretchen Thomas just introduced a hot new cocktail that isn’t on the menu. Yes, you read that correctly…it’s not on the menu, and as one who is in the know, all you need to do is ask for the Smoked Sherry Flip and your wish is our bartenders’ command. Inspired by a cocktail created by top Manhattan mixologist Katie Stipe, this tasty drink uses some of Gretchen’s favorite ingredients.
“A flip is a drink that uses egg. They are always creamy, with the consistency of a milkshake,” says Gretchen. It’s a great after dinner cocktail and perfect for this time of year because of the mescal’s smoky flavor.
Care to try it at home? Here’s the recipe:
Smoked Sherry Flip
1 oz Delgado Zuleta Moscatel Sherry
¾ oz Vizcaya VXOP Cask 12 Rum
¼ oz Sombra Mezcal
½ oz Simple Syrup
1 organic egg
In a cocktail shaker, place all ingredients without ice.
Dry shake for 20 seconds to emulsify.
Add fresh ice until the shaker is ¾ filled, and shake for 15 seconds or until the drink is very well chilled.
Strain into a chilled martini glass.
Garnish with a large orange peel.
